Regulations for LEGO Sumo

  1. General decision
    1. Competition participants can be single or numerous groups - up to 4 members, affiliated or non-members, forming a team. The team is required to register the participation using the form available on the competition website within the prescribed period.
    2. All team members should be born after January 1, 1999.
    3. Each team can register up to 6 constructions for the competition. Each of them can participate in any number of competitions. The robot's participation in the competition is counted as a new construction (eg a robot exhibited in two competitions is counted twice, etc.).
    4. Any changes regarding the date, the start time of the competition and changes in the registration of teams will be posted on the competition website.
    5. The exact schedule of the competition will be published on the competition website and will also be available on-site during the competition. Any changes to the schedule will be published on the competition website or during the competition.

  2. Specification of the robot
    1. Dimensions (length, width) of a fully equipped robot set in the starting position can not exceed 200x200 mm. The robot’s height is not limited. The dimensions will be verified using a precise template. Dimensions of the robot only after its launch by the judge may change.
    2. The robot after the start of the match can not be divided into pieces in the manner planned by the participant. He must remain one centralized robot
    3. The weight of the robot can not exceed 1000 grams.
    4. The robot must move autonomously. Any form of communication with the robot during the round is forbidden.
    5. The robot can be built only from Lego components, and electronic parts can only come from Mindstorms sets.
    6. For the start of the referee the competitors turn on their robots which should start 5s after the machine has started. Early start of the robot causes the round to be repeated, the next start before the 5 seconds elapse results in losing the round.
    7. Limitations in robot construction:
      1. The robot can not contain devices that actively interfere with the opponent's control system,
      2. The robot can not contain elements that can damage the ring,
      3. The robot can not contain devices emitting gases, liquids or loose materials,
      4. The robot can not contain devices emitting significant amounts of heat (eg flame throwers),
      5. The robot can not contain any propelling devices,
      6. The robot can not contain elements that attach it to the ring or prevent its displacement (eg suction cups, glue).
      7. The robot must be made only and exclusively from the parts available in the "LEGO" sets. The number of blocks is limited only by the total weight of the robot (chapter 2 point 3).
      8. ELECTRONIC ELEMENTS are limited to the following:
        1. 1x driver
        2. 3 motors
        3. 2 touch sensors
        4. 1 color or intensity sensor
        5. 1 ultrasonic or infrared distance sensor
      9. The participant is obliged to put the name of the robot on its body.
      10. Robot has the right to have other electronic parts provided that they are not connected to the system and do not bring other benefits in its operation, except: load the robot, (in the case of an additional box for batteries with batteries), an additional controller, whose function for example, part of the frame, load of the robot, visual aspect, additional sensors fulfilling the visual aspect or building aspect, with the fact that the sensor is not connected to the controller and is considered as a simple building part.
      11. A robot has the right to have a bulldozer or other structure used to attack an opponent, provided that it meets the requirements described in point 2.

  3. Ring specification
    1. The surface of the ring has the shape of a circle with a diameter of 770mm, placed at a height of at least 25mm above the surface of the outer ring area. The surface of the ring is black, flat, smooth, made of hard material with a low friction coefficient.
    2. The ring line of the ring is a ring of white color placed on the ring surface, with an external diameter of 770mm and a width of 25mm. The coastline belongs to the inner ring area.
    3. A projection of the cross divides the ring into quadrants, on which the robots are placed diagonally along one of the cross-shaped diagonals. The order of placing the robots is decided by a coin toss.
    4. The inner ring area is the surface of the ring along with the shoreline.
    5. The outer area of ​​the ring extends at least 1000mm from the shoreline of the ring, and only the judge is allowed to stay on it. The surface material of the outer ring area is free. The surface color of the outer ring area is free, except for white.
    6. The judge decides on the suitability of the ring for the game and the necessity of its replacement.

  4. Scoring and the course of the game.
    1. Effective points are awarded by the judge in the following cases:
      1. One of the robots will push his opponent out of the inner ring area,
      2. The opponent's robot leaves the inner ring of the ring by his own fault,
      3. The opponent's robot will be disqualified or will receive more than one warning or will be punished with one offense.
    2. Before the fight, the referee throws a marker that divides the ring into quarters. Participants put robots on opposite quarters of the ring on any direction.
    3. The order of placing the robot in the first round is decided by the person who won the duel with the coin.
    4. The entire game lasts 3 minutes but can be extended by the referee.
    5. The round lasts 1 minute, after exceeding this time the round is repeated for both works remaining on the ring.
    6. The round may be interrupted by the referee if both robots remain still for more than 10 seconds (the robot wedged on the edge of the ring, not touching the ground on which the ring with a rotating wheel is standing but not performing any other movements is a robot in a standstill)
    7. The round may be interrupted by the referee if both robots do not touch more than 30 seconds.
    8. The whole battle is won by the robot who won 2 rounds
    9. If both robots have fallen from the ring at the same time and it is not possible to determine which robot has touched the first ground on which the ring is standing, the judge interrupts the round and manages its repetition without awarding points.
    10. In the event that the robot does not start, the round will be repeated. The robot may not start 5 times during the entire fight, in case of exceeding this amount the robot may lose the entire fight, the final word in this situation is the judge.
    11. In the event of an unspecified situation, the judge has the deciding vote.

  5. Warnings, offenses and disqualification
    1. The participant may receive a warning in the following cases:
      1. The participant will enter the ring without the referee's consent,
      2. The robot will start any action within five seconds from the start of the round by the referee,
      3. Preparation for the resumption of the round will take the participant more than 30 seconds,
      4. The participant will take any actions that contradict the fair-play rules,
      5. During the competition, after a possible random weighing or measurement of the robot, the weight or dimension is not in accordance with point 2.
      6. When the participant receives a second warning, the opponent is awarded an effective point, and the round is considered to be finished.
    2. The participant may be punished with an offense in the following cases:
      1. A part of the weight of more than 10 grams will be dropped from the robot,
      2. The robot will stop moving on the ring for more than 30 seconds,
      3. Robots move in the ring, but they do not touch each other,
      4. Robot or robots emit smoke,
      5. The penalty of an offense results in giving the opponent or both participants an effective point.
    3. In the following cases, the participant loses by offense:
      1. The participant does not appear at the ring within five minutes of the call to the game,
      2. The participant undertakes intentional actions hindering or preventing playing the game (eg deliberately damaging the ring).
    4. In the following cases, the participant is disqualified:
      1. The participant's robot does not meet the requirements specified in Chapters 2.1-2.6
      2. The participant's robot does not respect the constraint listed in Chapter 2.7,
      3. The participant will intentionally damage the opponent's robot,
      4. The participant behaves contrary to the spirit of fair-play (eg insults the opponent or the referee).

  6. Final provisions
    1. No objections may be raised against the decision of the referee.
    2. A participant who objects to the provisions of the rules must submit them in a comprehensive manner to the tournament committee before the end of the competition (in this case point 6.1 does not apply)
    3. The final and undisputed interpretation of the regulations is made by the main referee.
    4. The organizers reserve the right to change the rules, about which competitors must be informed
    5. The organizers reserve the right to withdraw from certain provisions of the regulations, if this is absolutely necessary
    6. All unspeakable in the regulations of the event and disputes that may result from different interpretation of the regulations are judged by the main referee of the competition.

  7. Consent to publication:
    1. Registering a robot in a competition means agreeing to the publication of basic information about it, ie the name of the robot, team name, University or Institution name, photos, videos and occupied by the Organizers and Partners of the Competition without informing the Builder or Team.
